The building was constructed in 1919 and is a classic example of brick over timber frame construction that was being put up at that time. 20 units - six two bedrooms, 13 one bedrooms and the manager's apartment. The building has been through numerous owners over the years but many architectual details still can be seen in the units. Hardwood floors, unique hardwood moldings, original tilework, and cabinetry through-out. The current owner/ landlord had reinstalled a "hidden" skylite, added a sprinker system (through the hallways and into each apartment) and emergency exit lights & signs. Since it is an older building we try to access what it most needs on a yearly basis and then impliment those upgrades. Most recently we completely redid the roofing system to make the building watertight. Also new thermopane windows were installed to help cut down on electical bills. We have very low turnover in the Carlyle and many of us have been here for a long time. It is a quiet friendly building located on the #14 Metro Bus line . . . within walking distance of both Broadway, Upper Capital Hill, the Cascade district and downtown.
